Donington Park favourite Leon Haslam has been confirmed as a wildcard entry for the UK round of the MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship, which takes place at the Leicestershire circuit over the May Bank Holiday weekend (25-27 May).
The ‘Pocket Rocket’ announced in February he’d be joining Kawasaki Puccetti Racing for the Imola round and now he’s confirmed he’ll be with the team once more at Donington Park, his local circuit where he finished second last year in race one – the team’s first WorldSBK podium.
Haslam said: “I’m super-excited I’m going to be riding for the Kawasaki Pucetti team, the same as last season. Finishing second last year was over my expectations so hopefully we can do the same again. Hopefully there will be a big crowd there and we’ll give them something to cheer about.”
The rider is a firm favourite with fans at Donington Park and his inclusion in the entry list for WorldSBK is certain to be a big draw for the Bank Holiday event. Haslam has made a solid start in the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship after two rounds, registering a second place at the Donington Park opener and a win at Brands Hatch to go third in the table – just 14 points behind leader Bradley Ray.
No doubt he’ll relish testing his mettle again against competitors in WorldSBK. He was set to compete in the final two rounds of the championship in 2017, but the crash that ended his British Superbike Championship title hopes also scuppered those plans.
Catch him at the Donington Park round from 25-27 May, with advance adult weekend tickets priced £50. Kids under 13 go FREE – more details here.
